Sailing to Port Douglas Aboard the Wavepiercer, Queensland, Australia January 4, 2006 |
We were supposed to meet our old friends Dean and Julian on January 2 but bush fires forced them to stay at home and prevented us from going to their place. This was rather unfortunate because on the following day we were flying up to Cairns, so we did not manage to meet them during our vacation.
Having arrived at Cairns International Airport, we called a taxi and after a 20 minute drive on Captain Cook Highway, we were checking into a beachfront holiday apartment at the Alassio Palm Cove.
On January 4, we woke up bright and early because we were finally going to the Great Barrier Reef. From the Palm Cove jetty we boarded a Quicksilver Wavepiercer and sailed to Port Douglas to meet the Wavedancer, a 30 metre luxury sailing catamaran that would take us for a day trip to the Low Isles.
