Suya Memorial Kyoto, Japan October 8, 2007 Nikon D40X |
We had a bit of time left before catching the Shinkansen back to Tokyo, so we went back east to walk along Takasegawa canal. We happened to meet a strange old man wearing blue tinted glasses, who volunteered to take us for a whirlwind tour of the places where Sakamoto Ryoma lived and died. Each location was marked by a stone memorial like the one that you can see on this picture.
The old man would not say what he did for a living, but I suspect that he was a retired history teacher. In any case, we were very happy to have met him and it was the perfect conclusion to this voyage!
