Mama and papa Waimea Canyon, Kauai April 26, 1999 |
Chloé took this picture. It's good to know that someone other than mom knows how to operate a camera in this family.
We drove to Waimea Canyon State Park on Monday, April 26. It was a long drive for the kids, but it was worth it. After visiting the crowded Waimea Canyon Lookout, we drove back to one of the many hiking trails we had noticed on the way up and spent some time admiring the beautiful scenery surrounding us.
One interesting note from Lonely Planet: Waimea (which means 'reddish water') was the site of an ancient Hawaiian settlement. It was there, on January 19, 1778, that Captain James Cook first came ashore on the Hawaiian Islands.
